Zimmerman Minn. – November 28, 2016 – Corin Todd continued his progression as one of the up and coming stars of AMSOIL Championship Snocross on Saturday night, finishing 1-1 in his Pro Open heat races to earn the top qualifier spot for the main event.
By way of ACS rules, Todd was relegated to the ninth starting spot, meaning an outside line going into the all-important first turn. Corin battled at mid-pack early on before a mistake put him off track and out of contention. “The start here is a little unfair I would say as a racer, but we did what we could.” said Todd. Then I had a mistake and parked it in the trees which made it a tough way to end the day.”
Still, with added bonus points from the heat race wins, Todd sits fourth overall in the class, his best start to a season yet.
Trevor Leighton lined up in the Pro Open class for the first time since recovering from a season-ending back injury that occurred last February in New York. Leighton and Todd were able to get in a good amount of riding over the past month in British Columbia, but the second year Open class racer is virtually starting over having missed so much of his rookie season.
“I had some bad luck in the first heat and was leading the second heat before I made a couple mistakes which ended up putting me in the LCQ,” said Leighton. I had some more bad luck there and didn’t make it, so hopefully we get the race in today and I can put it in the final.”
Unfortunately, a heavy fog rolled into the area on Sunday morning, forcing race official to cancel round two. The event may be made up as part of the Janauary ACS weekend in Shakopee, Minnesota, but for now the team has a lot of cleanup work to do before focusing on the next rounds in Winter Park, Colorado on December 16-17.
